Bruce Berkowitz is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He began his career at the Central Intelligence Agency and since served throughout the U.S. intelligence community. Most recently, he was the Director, Forecasting and Evaluation at the Department of Defense (2004-5).
Dr. Berkowitz has written several books, including The New Face of War (Free Press, 2003), Calculated Risks (Simon and Schuster, 1987), and American Security (Yale, 1986), and coauthored Best Truth: Intelligence in the Information Age (Yale, 2000), Strategic Intelligence (Princeton, 1989), and The Need to Know: Covert Action and American Democracy (Twentieth Century, 1992). His articles have appeared in such journals as Foreign Affairs, The American Interest, Foreign Policy, and Issues in Science and Technology. He also publishes frequently in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Washington Post, and writes regularly for Orbis, where he is a contributing editor.
